How To Get On With Country Neighbours

It’s never easy getting to know your new neighbours, but when you move to the country, it can be especially tricky. If you’re not used to dealing with farmers and other rural folk, it might take a while to adjust. But don’t worry – we’re here to help! At Prestige & Village, we are rural and countryside property market specialists, and we are here to help. Read on for some tips on how to get along with your new country neighbours.

Introduce yourself to your neighbours

Try and say hello to your new neighbours as soon as you can. If they’re busy working on their farm or in their garden, don’t be afraid to go over and say hello. It’s always best to be friendly and polite, even if they seem a bit gruff at first.

Try to get involved in village life. If there’s a local pub, go for a drink there. If there’s a village fete or fair, go along and have a look around. Getting involved in village life is a great way to meet people and make friends.

Be patient

Don’t expect to become best friends with your neighbours overnight. It might take a while for them to warm up to you, but if you’re patient and friendly, they’ll eventually come round.

Join a club or group that meets regularly in your village

Have a look and see if there are any clubs that take your fancy in your new village or town. This could be a book club, a walking group, or even just a coffee morning. Joining a group is a great way to meet new people and make friends.

Say hello to people when you see them out and about

If you’re out walking your dog or picking up some milk from the shop, take the opportunity to say hello to people you see. Country folk are usually very friendly, so they’ll be more than happy to chat.

Have a BBQ or party

If you want to get to know your neighbours better, why not invite them over for a BBQ or a party? This is a great way to break the ice and get to know each other better.

Invite people over for dinner or coffee

Be prepared to lend a hand

In the country, people are always willing to lend a helping hand. If you see your neighbours struggling with something, offer to help out. They’ll appreciate it, and you might even make a new friend.
